Hwanjo Yu, PhD, POSTECH, South Korea

Dr. Hwanjo Yu is an Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at POSTECH, South Korea. He has a broad background in data mining and machine learning. He received his PhD in the area of data mining and machine learning under the supervision of Prof. Jiawei Han at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and since his graduate study, he has developed influential algorithms and systems in data minding and machine learning for the last 12 years. In particular, he has many years of research and project experience in recommendation and biomedical informatics, that are key research areas for this pilot project. For example, he has led projects related to mining and recommendation for PubMed for over five years, and he is also participating in projects on the topics of personalized recommendation, life-log machine learning, and machine learning applications to biomedical domains such as prostate cancer prediction and cancer subtype detection. His research results have been published in highly regarded journals and conferences. As a result of his previous research experience, Dr. Yu possesses strong expertise in the areas of data recommendation using machine learning and crowdsourcing.
