Cathy Wu, PhD, University of Delaware

Dr. Cathy Wu is the Edward G. Jefferson Chair and Director of the Center for Bioinformatics and Computational Biology (CBCB) and the Director of Protein Information Resource (PIR) at the University of Delaware. With background in both biology and computer science, Dr. Wu has conducted bioinformatics and computational biology research for 25 years. Since 1999, she has led the development of the PIR as a major bioinformatics resource to support genomics, proteomics and systems biology research. She has served as the PI/Co-PI on several consortium projects, including the UniProt Consortium and the Protein Ontology Consortium. She serves on many scientific advisory boards, including the Protein Data Bank, ACM SIGBio, Human Proteome Organization and USHUPO. Dr. Wu has served on over 50 conference organizing committees, published more than 220 peer-reviewed papers and 12 books and conference proceedings, and given over 150 invited talks. Her research encompasses protein structure-function-evolution, biomedical text mining and ontology, omics data integration and systems biology, and translational bioinformatics. Dr. Wu will serve as a collaborator on the bioCADDIE Pilot Project 3.2 to build citation networks and evaluate citation and data access metrics for the UniProt knowledge base.
